Real Drum electronic drums set

What it is

Real Drum is a virtual drum kit for phones and tablets from Kolb Apps. It is listed under Music, is free, rated Everyone, and has been around since April 4, 2012. The latest update is dated October 26, 2026.

You tap pads and cymbals on the screen, the way you would hit a real kit, and the app plays studio-quality sounds.

What it does well

Learning is a major focus. The listing mentions over 100 drum lessons, plus video lessons and loops to play along with. New kits, lessons and loops are said to arrive weekly.

Creation tools are covered too. A sequencer lets you switch steps on and off to build repeating beats. You can export recordings as MP3 and share both recordings, plus kits you design, to social media.

Customisation is generous. Pick the number of pads and cymbals, set their size and position, then add pictures and sounds of your own to make a kit that is yours. There are various kits, including realistic 3D drums, and MIDI support is listed for people with other gear.

The listing frames it as a quiet way to practise without an acoustic kit.

Where it falls short

The ratings are good but not spotless. From 1,665,602 ratings the average is 4.48, with 74.8% at five stars. About 5.5% gave one star, more than double the 2.2% at two.

The listing also does not say which kits, lessons or loops are free and which cost money. It simply lists them all as features and calls the app free. And as with any tapping app, the listing does not claim anything about touch latency on different devices.

Who it suits

Beginners, kids and casual players who want to mess around with beats will find plenty to do. With 100,000,000+ installs, it clearly reaches many people.

The star split rounds out the picture. About 86% of raters give four or five stars, since 11.7% gave four and 74.8% gave five. The 5.7% at three stars and 2.2% at two stars are small. For an app that has been around since 2012, keeping that score across 1,665,602 ratings suggests it has aged well. The listing also says new drum sets, lessons and loops appear weekly, which, if true, explains some of that staying power.
