What it is

Garmin Connect is the official phone app from Garmin, filed under Health & Fitness. It is free to install, rated Everyone, and has been on Google Play since January 9, 2013. The most recent update in the data is October 7, 2026.

It works as a hub. You pair the phone with a compatible Garmin watch or device, and the app shows what that device tracked.

What it does well

Scale first. The app has 50,000,000+ installs and 1,117,702 ratings at an average of 4.39. Of those ratings, 75.3 percent are five stars and 10 percent are four stars.

The feature list is practical. The description says you can review activities with detailed statistics, and look at how your sleep, weight, stress, heart rate, steps, calories and menstrual cycle move over time. You can personalize the home screen so the most useful items show first.

Beyond viewing data, the app lets you create customized workouts and courses, earn badges, and compete on a leaderboard with friends. It also syncs with MyFitnessPal and Strava, which matters if you already keep records there. Device support is part of it as well.

The page names several device families, including Forerunner, Venu and fenix, and points to Garmin.com for the full compatibility lists.

Where it falls short

The first limit is hardware. The listing frames the app around pairing with a compatible Garmin device. Without one, the description gives little reason to expect much, and it does not say what the app offers on its own.

The rating split shows a real group of unhappy users. 9.2 percent of ratings are one star and 3 percent are two stars, which together is roughly one in eight. That is a higher share than the best rated apps in this batch.

There are cost notes of a different kind. The listing says background GPS running can dramatically reduce battery life. It also states the app needs SMS permission and call log permission to show messages and incoming calls on your device. That is stated plainly, but some people will want to think about it.

Who it suits

Garmin owners who want a long view of their training and health numbers are the target. Everyone else should check the compatible device list before installing.

What we like

  • Reviews activities and health metrics such as heart rate, sleep, stress and weight
  • Lets you build workouts and courses, earn badges and sync with Strava and MyFitnessPal
  • Customizable home screen and device support in one place

Watch out for

  • Most of the value needs a compatible Garmin device paired to the phone
  • 9.2 percent of ratings are one star, a sizeable group
  • The listing warns that continued background GPS use can sharply cut battery life, and asks for SMS and call log permissions
Verdict: Useful if you already own a Garmin device, but it is a companion app first, and one in eight raters gave it one or two stars.
