Health & Fitness

Trust is the whole category. MyFitnessPal lives or dies on its food database, Strava on what it does with a GPS signal under trees, Nike Run Club on a coaching voice you either want in your ear or do not. Samsung Health assumes a Samsung phone and says so quietly. Calm and Headspace cover the other half of this lane, sleep and attention, and both pages ask the same awkward question: what is left of the app once the trial ends?
Verdicts at a glance
- Home Workout - No Equipment 4,049,640 ratings put Home Workout - No Equipment at 4.9, which reads as very well liked for a health & fitness app.
- MyFitnessPal: Calorie Counter 7.2/10 Still the gold standard for calorie tracking thanks to its database, but years of feature expansion and paywall creep have diluted what made it exceptional.
- Samsung Health 5.2/10 A solid fitness companion if you live in the Samsung hardware ecosystem, but a mediocre choice for everyone else.
- Strava: Run, Bike, Walk 8.0/10 The most complete activity tracking platform on Android for serious athletes, though the paywall for competitive and analytical features is increasingly hard to avoid.
- Garmin Connect™ Useful if you already own a Garmin device, but it is a companion app first, and one in eight raters gave it one or two stars.
- Nike Run Club - Running Coach 7.0/10 The best coaching-led running app on Android for beginners through intermediates, but it falls short for performance-focused runners who need serious data.
- Calm - Sleep, Meditate, Relax 7.2/10 A polished, genuinely useful wellness app held back by an aggressive paywall and a price tag that demands real commitment upfront.
- Headspace: Sleep & Meditate 6.8/10 A well-structured meditation app for beginners who want guided learning, but the thin free tier and narrower catalog make it harder to recommend over close competitors.
