Travel & Local

Verdicts at a glance

• Google Maps 6.1/10 Google Maps is the default for good reason, but its importance to daily life means even minor failures get noticed, which partly explains the gap between actual usefulness and its store rating.
• Grab - Taxi & Food Delivery A strongly rated super-app for people in the regions it serves, though the listing never shows prices or says where each service is offered.
• Booking.com: Hotels & Travel 7.8/10 A powerful, well-built travel app held back only by dark-pattern nudges that undercut the trust it otherwise earns.
• WiFi Map: Free Wi-Fi Near You A useful travel utility with a huge user base, but the 1-star share is noticeable and the listing leaves password accuracy and eSIM pricing unexplained.
• Agoda: Cheap Flights & Hotels A very well liked travel & local app on the numbers: 4.6 stars from 2,294,296 ratings and 100 million+ installs.
• Airbnb 7.8/10 A polished booking app that earns its rating, let down mainly by poor offline support and pushy notification defaults.
• Expedia: Hotels, Flights, Cars The ratings say very well liked: 4.8 out of 5, with 50 million+ installs behind the listing.
• Tripadvisor: Plan & Book Trips 6.8/10 The most useful research tool for travel planning thanks to sheer review coverage, but the commercial layers have cluttered what should be a cleaner experience.
