There is no such thing as a free transfer, only a fee you have not found yet. Google Pay, Cash App, PayPal and Venmo all promise the same simple thing and differ completely on limits, charges and what happens when money goes to the wrong person. Robinhood is a different product again. These five pages stay on mechanics: verification, how long a transfer really takes, the fee schedule, and the recovery path if the phone is lost. None of it is financial advice.
Verdicts at a glance
- Google Pay: Save and Pay 3.0/10 A defunct app for US users — install Google Wallet instead, which is the active Google payments product on Android.
- Cash App 7.6/10 One of the best peer-payment apps on the market, with useful financial add-ons, though it's not yet equipped for primary banking given the customer service gaps.
- Revolut: Spend, Save, Trade A well liked finance app on the numbers: 4.5 stars from 4,173,935 ratings and 50 million+ installs.
- PayPal - Pay, Send, Save 6.5/10 A reliable utility for personal payments, but its limitations as a dispute-resolution platform and rising transfer fees make it feel like it's coasting on network effects.
- Wells Fargo Mobile 2,952,962 ratings put Wells Fargo Mobile at 4.8, which reads as very well liked for a finance app.
- Wise: International Transfers A well rated international money app, with regional product limits and fees that vary, so check what applies to you before moving money.
- Remitly: Money transfer app A very well rated option for sending money abroad, but the listing gives no fee or rate figures, so compare a quote before you send.
- Venmo 6.8/10 The definitive P2P payment app for its US user base, but the public-by-default social feed is a real privacy concern that users should actively manage.
- Robinhood: Trade Anything 6.4/10 Good enough for casual investors who prioritize simplicity, but the shallow research tools and lingering trust issues make it hard to recommend for serious trading.
